Don'ts for DIY SKINCARE

              "Don'ts for DIY Skincare"

In day to day lives we come across so many DIY skincare videos online in which we are told to use certain kitchen ingredients for specific skin concerns. But we should not use anything blindly on our skin. Before using any ingredient, we should research about it so that we know the properties as well as the pros and cons of the ingredient we will use.

I'm going to tell you five such ingredients you should not use on your face and what is the reason behind it :-

1. Raw apple cider vinegar - Some bloggers and influencers without proper research on some ingredients tell their audience to use apple cider vinegar as cleanser and toner for hyperpigmentation.
ACV contains acetic acid which is so acidic that it can burn the skin permanently on which it is applied.
Full strength of ACV can cause burns and inflammations on the skin. Only less than 20% of apple cider vinger mixed with water can be used not more than that.

 2. Coffee and sugar scrubs - Coffee and sugar scrubs should not be used as exfoliaters for your face as they are abrasive and can cause microtears on the surface of the skin which can cause irritation and red marks.
Instead you can use coffee and sugar as a lip scrub to exfoliate your lips.

3.Lemon - Lemon is highly acidic in nature having a pH level of 2 and our skin has a pH level of 4.5-5, and this can cause irritation. Certain oils present in lemon are phototoxic which can also cause irritation and sunburns with exposure to sunlight. Ascorbic acid present in the lemon increases skin's photosensitivity, risk of premature ageing and sunburns.

4. Toothpaste - Tooth paste should not be applied to zits and pimples and left overnight. Tooth paste contains several irritating ingredients such as peppermint, alcohol and peroxide which can tear up the skin and cause chemical burns.

5.Baking Soda- Another such ingredient which should should not be used as DIY skincare because it is highly alkaline with pH level of 9 which can damage the skin's barrier and make the skin prone to bacteria further causing breakouts.

I am not an expert. I have also made mistakes in the past but now I know what it actually is. My only advice to you is before applying anything on your face, do a research so that you know what you are applying and save yourselves from damaging your skin. Hope the above information was helpful enough.
 xoxo.......
